Trend Micro launches Home Network Security, for New Zealand home internet users

Trend Micro Home Network Security protects and manages all connected devices at home and helps kids stay safe online

Auckland, 21st August 2017 – Trend Micro today announces its new product for New Zealand consumers, Trend Micro Home Network Security - providing protection against network intrusions, web threats and identity theft for every device connected to the internet at home.

Trend Micro Home Network Security includes parental control features that provide a safer internet for children and the ability to manage family internet usage.

It is currently estimated that New Zealand households have an average of over nine connected devicesi. Most of these devices are not protected from network attacks, web threats and other risks and provide cybercriminals with new avenues to attack consumers.

New research1 reveals that more than 1.8 million cyberattacks have been conducted through home network routers in the past six months. And New Zealand is ranked 26th most likely to be affected by cyberattacks against 148 other countries.

Trend Micro Home Network Security offers a new and additional layer of protection for the home network and internet connected devices like game consoles, smart TVs, smartphones and tablets, and smart home gadgets.

According to the Trend Micro Global Security Report, one in five New Zealand home internet users are highly concerned that viruses and other threats could infect the devices in their householdii.

Tim Falinski, consumer director for Trend Micro in APAC, said these findings highlight the growing need for stronger security across all devices accessing the internet at home.

“The rise in popularity of connected devices is seeing homes being more connected than ever before. Families are using all types of gadgets to access the internet at home, which is seeing kids today connected to the internet for longer periods of time.”

“While traditional devices such as laptops and home PCs are usually protected by security software, these new smart devices including smartphones, tablets, game consoles and smart TVs are often forgotten and can be a huge security risk for families,” said Falinski.

The report also found that around one in ten of New Zealand respondents have all their digital devices connected via one central wireless router, view financial information online, as well as upload and download pictures. And nearly half of New Zealand households access credit card information online.

Trend Micro Home Network Security also comes with parental controls features that allow parents to:

  • Specify how children use the Internet and prevent specific categories of websites from being opened
  • Limit internet access to only certain periods of the day
  • Manage and create profiles for children making it easier to set the appropriate controls for all their devices
  • Monitor or block what your kids are doing online

Availability and price
Trend Micro Home Network Security is available in New Zealand from Friday September 1st, online and at Harvey Norman, Noel Leeming and JB Hi Fi. RRP $349, price includes Home Network Security station and two year subscription.

Trend Micro recommends that Home Network Security should be used in conjunction with Trend Micro Maximum Security for all devices.
